  • HINDI 104: Introductory Hindi, Part 4

    $190.00 – $225.00
    This course meets in Term 2 & Term 4 each year. Our 2022 Term 2 course has 12 consecutive sessions per Term and begins on Friday 29 April 2022 and meets from 8:00-9:30pm (New Zealand time). Our Introductory Hindi 104 course is specifically designed for adults (and children over 10 yrs) who have completed the Hindi 101-103 courses and who wish to continue their language learning. This class may also be suitable for new students who can already read and write in Devanāgrī, but who may have basic Hindi grammar and vocabulary skills.   • HINDI 201: Intermediate Hindi, Part 1

    $125.00 – $150.00
    Offered in Term 1 and Term 3 every year. 2022 Term 1 classes begin Wednesday 16 February 2022, 4:00-5:30pm. The US Time equivalent for this live-streamed course is Tuesday evenings 7:00pm (US Pacific), 9:00pm (US Central) and 10:00pm (US Eastern), beginning Tuesday 15 February 2022. Our Intermediate Hindi 201 course is specifically designed for adults (and children over 10 yrs) who have completed the first year Introductory Hindi 101-104 courses and who wish to continue their language learning. This class may also be suitable for students who already read and write in Devanāgrī, and who may already have Introductory Hindi grammar and vocabulary skills.     $125.00 – $150.00
    This course is offered every Term. Our Term 1 course meets Fridays 6:00-7:30pm beginning 18 February 2022 (NZ time). The US time equivalent for this live-streamed (from New Zealand) class is Thursday nights 9:00pm (US Pacific) beginning 16 February. Our Hindi 300: Conversational Hindi course is specifically designed for adults (and children over 10 yrs) who have completed the first year Introductory Hindi 101-104 and Intermediate Hindi 201-204 courses and who wish to continue their language learning through conversational practice. It is also for those who already understand basic Hindi grammar, can read and write Devanāgarī, and who simply wish to practice speaking in Hindi.

  • HIS103: “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the History of the Land of the Long White Cloud, Aotearoa New Zealand”

    This course is next offered in Term 1 beginning Tuesday 15 February 2022, 5:30-7:00pm. HIS103: “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the History of the Land of the Long White Cloud, Aotearoa New Zealand”: This introduction and overview to New Zealand history through a series of 8 talks explores Rudyard Kipling’s description of New Zealand as “Last, Loneliest, Loveliest.” Aotearoa New Zealand, one of the most isolated countries in the world, has a unique and intriguing history, waiting to be told and retold to curious minds. Over the following eight weeks we will explore the geographical, social, economic and political characteristics of this small nation, which has already punched above its weight locally and internationally.

  • HIS108: “From Plague to Protest: A Social History of Disease”

    $65.00 – $75.00
    NEW COURSE: This course in our Junior Lecturer Series is offered in the second half of Term 4 beginning Tuesday 16 November 2021, and caters to both the New Zealand market (Tuesday midday classes from 12:00-2:00pm), and the North American market (Monday 3:00-5:00pm US Pacific time and Monday 6:00-8:00pm US Eastern time). NZ classes begin Tuesday 16 November, and North American classes begin Monday 15 November 2021. Details below. This course will be offered again in 2022.  JUNIOR LECTURER SERIES: this course in our Junior Lecturer Series, gives young people an opportunity to share their passions, experience and knowledge. HIS108A: “From Plague to Protest: A Social History of Disease”: This four-session course offers an accessible overview of disease from both biological and social perspectives. We will begin with discovering how the body defends itself against invaders, and then pivot to examining the invaders themselves. Armed with this knowledge, we will be able to explore how diseases have played out in society, from the Middle Ages through to the present day. Along the way, we will examine some fascinating case studies and the individuals who have played pivotal roles in either furthering our understanding in the battle of organisms or in stymying public health efforts. Our Junior Lecturer for this course is 19-year-old Adam Nachowitz, currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science, with majors in Molecular Pathology and Mathematics, as well as a Bachelor of Music, at Victoria University of Wellington.

  • HIS203: “Understanding the Classical World and its Impact on Modern Life”

    $65.00 – $75.00
    This course will be offered again in 2022 Term 3. HIS203: “Understanding the Classical World and its Impact on Modern Life”: This series of 4 evening talks, from our new Introductory World History series, explores and reveals the primal influences of classical Greece & Rome, and explains how these influences manifest today and get played out in the modern world. Knowing these things helps not only with our sense of identity, but also provides us with a point of reference against which to measure our values and make critical judgments.
